“India require a model of urbanization which is people centric. Keeping up with rural to urban migration is becoming a social problem. But India cannot solve the problem the way China did,” Anand Mahindra, the chairman and Managing director of Mahindra and Mahindra said.
He was speaking at a conclave in the Capital Cities called ‘Building Cities To Last’ organized by Mahindra World City.
“We have to reimagine the urban development in India. We have to challenge the notion that economic development do not happen in smaller towns,” Mahindra said adding that building communities is the key to urbanization in India.
“It is very important to create communities. That is the reason my First personal investment was in LocalCircle which promotes community. We will ensure that next Mahindra World City will be built around community,” Anand Mahindra said.
Speaking about the challenges of urbanization India, Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Ayog said that “The challenges of Urbanization for India has just begun. I personally believe in cities which are compact and backed by robust public transport”.
Focussing on the role of technology, Amitabh Kant added that “with robust information technology and data analytics, India can crack the urbanization. Technology can really enhance the mobility and can smarten up our existing cities”.
