Venkaiah resigns, Tomar Gets Additional Charge Of MoHUF

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Rural Development was given additional charge of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUF) as Venkaiah Naidu resigned as a cabinet minister following his nomination by the BJP as its vice presidential candidate.

"Shri @MVenkaiahNaidu has resigned from his ministerial responsibilities. Additional charge of @Moud_India has been given to Shri @nstomar," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted today.

According to the sources, the responsibility is temporary till the cabinet reshuffle, which is likely after the selection process of vice-presidential elections are over. 

M Venkaiah Naidu resigned on Tuesday after he was named by the BJP as its vice presidential candidate after a party meeting. Naidu will contest agaist Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the Vice president candidate by the opposition.

Another portfolio of Information and Broadcasting, held by Venkaiah Naidu, was given to Smriti Irani, Minister of Textile as the additional responsibility.
