In the latest order issued by the Government of India, Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer K Rajaraman will succeed Anshu Prakash as the Secretary to the Ministry of Telecom on 30th September 2021. Rajaraman will take over the new role after Prakash retires from his current post.
A 1989-batch IAS, Rajaraman, is currently working as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance. Prior to the post of Additional Secretary, he has also served as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.
Anshu Prakash is an AUGMUT cadre 1986-batch IAS officer. He served as the Chief Secretary of Delhi during 2017 and 2018. During this period, he alleged the Kejriwal Government of assault. IN 2018, he was appointed as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Telecom. He later got promoted to the post of Secretary in the same ministry.
The appointments are done by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. This committee comes under the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Chairman of the committee.
The appointment comes after the government announced a relief package for the telecom sector. The package includes the change of definitions of AGR etc. and is expected to promote the revival of telcos like Vi and Airtel.
