UP Govt To Establish Triple R Centres In All Urban Bodies

The Uttar Pradesh government will be setting up ‘No Throw-No Throw' Triple R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centres in all 762 urban bodies of Uttar Pradesh instead of 11 municipal corporations. The decision to establish an RRR centre in each ward was made in view of CM Yogi Adityanath's intention and subsequent considerations of feasibility.

Through these centres, citizens will be able to donate their unused items such as clothes, books, toys, electrical and electronic devices, machinery, and more, in all wards of the entire state. The Municipal Bodies will collect these and distribute them among the needy. These centres will be developed as cloth banks, book banks, utensil banks, toy banks etc.

The initiative has been taken under the ‘Meri Life Mera Swachh Shahar’ campaign of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Additionally, special awareness programs will be organised in urban bodies across the state under the Mission Life campaign.

The State Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Neha Sharma issued instructions in this regard to all the urban bodies on Thursday. She informed that special events will be organised on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5 June.

“'Triple R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) Na Throw-Na Throw Centres' are being set up under the Meri Life Mera Swachh Shahar Abhiyan of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. These Triple R centres will be set up in every ward on the basis of availability. Various self-help groups, public representatives, business class, students, service class and other sections of the society will also be connected under Swachh Connect,” said Sharma.

State Mission Director further said, ”The operation of the Triple R Center will be done through the volunteers of the concerned civic body. Arrangements have been made to connect various voluntary organisations, self-help groups and other organisations for distribution and collection of goods at these centres. Any person can provide useless items for his/her house. No throw- no throw chariots will also be operated in all urban bodies for the collection of goods.”

“According to the instructions received in the meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary regarding the Mission Life campaign, special events will be organised in all the urban bodies of the state till June 5,” informed Sharma.

These programmes will include -

- A plog run in each municipality under the name 'Run for Life'.

- A mega event by the local bodies as ‘Lifestyle Day’ on 5 June, 2023, in which the newly elected public representatives will administer an oath to adopt an environment-friendly lifestyle. Local people will also be associated with public representatives in the oath-ceremony programme. Additionally, all the officers and employees of the civic body will also take oath.

- Essay writing, wall painting, painting competition, debate competition etc. will be organised in schools based on the concept of environment and lifestyle.

- During the campaign, a massive campaign will also be run by the civic bodies on social media.

- Voluntary organisations like NCC, NSS, Scout Guide, Rotary Club etc. will be specially included in the campaign. Other creative activities can also be added to the campaign.
