Smart Cities Mission To Showcase Achievements, Innovations At 9th Expo In New Delhi

The Smart Cities Mission (SCM) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) is highlighting its accomplishments at the 'National Smart Cities Mission Pavilion' during the ongoing 9th Smart Cities India Expo at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The exhibition, organised by the India Trade Promotions Organization (ITPO) and the Exhibitions India Group, is set to run from January 17 to January 19, 2024.

The 'National Smart Cities Mission Pavilion' offers a glimpse into some of the most impactful projects undertaken by the SCM, showcasing innovative models of urban development. Notable projects featured include the Chappan Dukaan of Indore Smart City, the Connecting Past with Future initiative of Surat Smart City, the Area-Based Development project in Udaipur Smart City, and the Digitization of Manuscripts in Prayagraj Smart City.

As part of the exposition, a City Leader's Conclave is scheduled for January 19, 2024, bringing together city leaders and private entrepreneurs on a common platform. The conclave aims to facilitate discussions on city initiatives, identifying solutions for building livable and sustainable urban spaces. Additionally, the Smart Cities India Awards, also set for January 19, will recognize projects that have significantly contributed to making cities more livable, sustainable, and economically viable by honouring best practices across the 100 Smart Cities.

The 16th Finance Commission's Pavilion is anticipated to be a hub of knowledge exchange and collaborative efforts as stakeholders converge to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities in urban development.

Underlining the significance of the Smart Cities Mission, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015, the Ministry highlighted its objective of promoting cities equipped with core infrastructure, a clean and sustainable environment, and an enhanced quality of life through the application of smart solutions.

As of January 15, 2024, the 100 Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) established as part of the Smart Cities Mission have successfully completed over 6,650 projects worth more than ₹1.32 lakh crores, with around 8,000 multi-sectoral projects currently in progress.
