Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament and National Spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi stressed on the need to upgrade the policies that create impediments in the way of our police officers getting better equipment in an event held to felicitate the winners of FICCI SMART Policing Awards 2017.
Lekhi also unveiled the FICCI Compendium on Best Practices in SMART Policing 2017 in the event.
In the event, held on the second day of Homeland Security conference (25 May, 2017) in New Delhi, Lekhi pointed out that given the current geo-political situation, there is a need to step up training of police officers and modernize the systems for better internal security.
Lekhi expressed her concern over interference of police based on caste or other such personal biases. She further added that policing is a state subject and each state has unique issues and pace of resolving it.
She also suggested the private sector to contribute towards building security infrastructure and work in close collaboration with enforcement agencies highlighting the importance of private sector in India’s internal security.
G.K. Pillai, Chairman, FICCI Committee on Homeland Security and Former Union Home Secretary, Government of India echoed Lekhi’s thoughts in the event.
Smart Policing Awards recognizes the best practices in policing in India. Former President of FICCI and Executive Chairman of Great Eastern Energy Corporation Ltd informed said that this year over 130 entries were received from various Police Forces across India.
FICCI SMART Policing awards showcase initiatives taken by the various Internal Security Forces for the safety and security of citizens.
