NEW DELHI, October 7: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will install energy efficient LED lighting at all Metro installations which will result in the company consuming 40 percent less energy and saving Rs 7 crore annually, DMRC said today.
"Energy efficient LED lighting will be installed at all Delhi Metro stations, depots and residential complexes as a measure to encourage the use of environment friendly technologies in all spheres of its functioning," a statement said.
DMRC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Energy Efficiency Services Limited in this respect.
It entered into another agreement for developing Green Building Certification norms with US Green Building Council (USGBC), and the Green Business Certification Inc., an international green building certifying agency.
The entities will now jointly develop norms for the green building certification of Metro stations and depots in India as well as across the globe, an official statement said.
Delhi Metro is developing all its stations under Phase III as green buildings while all its recently opened stations on the Faridabad corridor as well as the Janpath, Mandi House and ITO stations have already received platinum green building ratings.
