HYDERABAD, February 23: Telangana New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited today decided to take up distribution of LED bulbs to all households in Medak and Nizamabad districts under a pilot project.
At the fifth Board meeting of TNREDCL held under the chairmanship of Arvind Kumar, Secretary, Energy, it was proposed to distribute LED bulbs duly replacing incandescent bulbs, a state government release said.
Under the project, each household will be provided two LED bulbs of 9 watts each.
Eighty per cent power could be saved if conventional lights are replaced with LED lamps, it said.
As energy saving will be quite substantial, the board has decided to distribute two numbers of 9 watt LED bulb to each household on exchange of two numbers of 60 watt incandescent bulbs to save power consumed.
"It is estimated that about 90 per cent of energy consumed will be saved by using LED bulbs. Apart from saving conventional power, it benefits the society in achieving energy security and protection of environment and to reduce the household energy consumption," the release stated.
"LED Bulbs will be distributed as a part of the Demand Side Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) being implemented to save electricity consumption," it added.
