Kakinada, Jan 12: In a unique move, Kakinada City administration is planning for "Plastic roads" in Kakinada city as the administration is aiming to make it a pollution free city.
Initially the administration will use the roads in at least ten places.
"District administration has been preparing a plan to lay 10 plastic roads in Kakinada 'Smart City' with the aim to make it free from pollution. Remuneration will be provided to rag-pickers," East Godavari district collector H Arun Kumar told media.
He said plastic roads will be laid with used and discarded carry bags, disposable glasses and other plastic articles which are shredded. "It will save 10 per cent of bitumen and bring down the expenditure as well," Kumar added.
The Collector said such system of laying roads was introduced in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam (port city) and now East Godavari district administration will introduce it in Kakinada city.
