NEW DELHI, July 29: Ahead of the crucial UN climate change summit scheduled to take place in Paris in December, India is likely finalise its proposal outlining its intended actions to curb emissions of greenhouse gases by next month.
Sources in the Environment Ministry said that process of finalising the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) has been fast tracked and a lot of exercise is being carried out for it.
"The INDCs will be finalised by August. Consultations are being done with all the ministries. We have done a lot of exercises. Our INDC will be well structured. We have not done it casually," a top source in the Environment Ministry said.
Referring to the proposal of Road Transport and Highways Ministry to transform 90,000 km of national highways into green corridors, sources said that the proposal itself will create a huge carbon sink and that too have to be quantified in the INDCs.
"If 90,000 km road and transport ministry want to do greening then its a huge carbon sink they are creating along highways. Quantification needs to be done," sources added.
Similarly, the source also referred to the proposal of the Heavy Industries ministry of providing 12,000 crore of subsidy on purchase of electrical vehicles which will help in saving thousands of crores worth of petrol and diesel.
Every country in the world is either in the process or have submitted their INDCs in the run up to the Paris climate change conference which will pave the way for a global climate pact.
Countries like China, US, and the European Union amongst others have have already made public their INDCs.
