CHANDIGARH, April 3: The Haryana Government plans to bring an act to provide drinking water supply facilities in rural and urban areas, besides maintaining sewerage and storm water systems in urban areas in an efficient and controlled manner.
Announcing this here today, an official spokesman said the water Supply and Sewerage Act would also help curb the illegal activities of tampering with the distribution system and result in equitable distribution of water supply in all parts of the villages and towns.
Sewage treatment plants are required to be constructed in all the towns or in the areas where sewerage system exists for proper treatment and disposal of the sewage.
At Present, 78 STPs are functional and work on setting up 35 STPs is under progress, he said.
Eight STPs are in the process of implementation by the Public Health Engineering Department in municipal towns within the next two years, he added
The state government has decided to provide water supply in unauthorised colonies of urban areas.
With a view to meeting the demand in unauthorised colonies in urban areas, it is proposed to undertake a pilot project, especially in such colonies by way of installation of reverse osmosis (RO) plants.
This would be done through open and transparent tenders, wherein the land may be made available by the government and balance infrastructure, including marketing, by the private partner, the spokesman added.
