Employment Opportunities In Smart Cities

Smart cities are the gateways to the future. With the advent of 5G and other superior ICT technologies, IOT and the concept of connected devices, AI and machine learning, AR and online gaming, all public department works in smart cities are expected to be run using automated and mission-critical technology like smart garbage disposal modelling, smart water and natural resource conservation, transport mechanisms, centralizing service requests and response, and consolidation of the payment system.

Though the above technology can get better at its job by applying machine learning concepts, the need to develop, test, deploy and maintain this technology will be more than ever with skilled professionals with advanced computer and electronic degrees entering the smart city deployment and maintenance space. This requires all government officials, police force, dispatchers, and truck drivers to be tech-savvy to some extent, to understand how to operate the underlying systems, if nothing else. It also requires a battalion of software professionals to maintain and fix issues, not to mention the researchers and the programmers who design the software in the first place.

Smart cities require software architects, designers, software developers with ML programming skills, solution integrators, testers, researchers in the health and entertainment sector, and customer support teams. Glitches might be costly enough to affect lives. There is a bright future for candidates trained in the skills that are vital for the development and operation of smart cities, and steps must be taken to promote this from the grassroot levels all the way to upgrading existing skillsets to achieve this goal.
