Earthquake Warning System Installed At Haryana govt's building

CHANDIGARH, March 14: An earthquake warning system was today installed at the mini Secretariat building of Haryana government here. Bijender Goel, Managing Director of Terra Techcom, the company which has installed the 'Early Earthquake Warning and Security System' free of cost here, said today that the system can save lives and reduce losses in the event of an earthquake. Goel claimed that this system was not only a seismic switch for on site early warning but capable of releasing early warning of an earthquake. "It gets activated automatically and takes step for security and safety of people and infrastructure by shutting off elevators, electricity, gas supply, water supply, opens emergency gates and warns people of an earthquake by signalling an alarm," claimed Goel. The warning device, which has been tested at CSIR- Structural Engineering and Research Centre, Chennai, will give a warning at every floor of the seven storey building. "We have shown and proven the utility of our device today by grounding the elevators of the Mini Secretariat building and giving an alarm at every floor of this seven floor building. "Our six horn siren at the terrace of the building is capable of giving alarm for 6 km radius of the city beautiful. It can be used as public announcement system too. We did this by creating artificial waves to the system," he said. Goel also claimed that this device has been installed in more than 25 countries and has been accurately giving prior alarm of an earthquake after sensing primary waves and saved many lives. The device has been installed in joint venture with German company Secty Electronics GmbH, on pilot basis at the Mini Secretariat building for the first time across India. It had been formally launched in New Delhi earlier this year. Haryana Additional Chief Secretary, Forest Amit Jha, Commissioner of Revenue and Disaster Management Suparbha Dahiya and Secretary of State Disaster Management Authority Tilak Raj were present at the event, a statement released by the company said. -PTI
