CM Bengal reshuffles 8 IAS officers post forced deputation of IPS officers

Strengthening its administrative control over the state the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has announced new postings for top IAS officers in the state.

The state government has transferred senior IAS officers, Vivek Kumar to the state forest department. The 1990-batch IAS officer was posted as principal secretary of the environment department. Vivek Kumar will, however, continue to be the chairman of the West Bengal valuation board. Senior IAS officer Arnab Roy is named the new environment department head.

This comes after the Centre announced forced deputation for three senior Bengal cadre IPS officers. The Union ministry of home last week asked the three Bengal IPS officers including Bholanath Pandey (SP, Diamond Harbour), Praveen Tripathi (DIG, Presidency Range), and Rajeev Mishra (ADG, South Bengal) to join Central services on deputation.

Further senior 1990 batch IAS officer, Roshni Sen is named new principal secretary Sunderbans affairs department. While Hrisdesh Mohan, an IAS officer of the 1990 batch, is posted as principal secretary of the public enterprises and industrial reconstruction department, senior IAS officer Soma Bhattacharya is posted as secretary, state commission for protection of child rights.

Also, senior IAS officer S Poonambalam has been deployed as executive director of WBIDC. Barnali Biswas is posted as secretary, consumer affairs and self-help group and self-employment departments. Senior IAS officer Randhir Kumar is posted as additional secretary, technical education department.

Earlier the Union government also assigned new roles for three IPS officers who were given forced deputation. While Bholanath Pandey was deputed as SP, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), Praveen Tripathi was named DIG, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Rajeev Mishra was named IG, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) respectively.
