Centre to come up with waste-to-energy policies

NEW DELHI, June 15: Centre will soon come up with policies on converting waste into energy or composite materials besides formulating a strategy on reuse of debris, Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu today said. "In the coming days, the Government will be coming up with a clear-cut policy on waste-to-energy and waste to composite. With regard to reusing debris, we will be coming up with a formulation which will be useful across the country," Naidu told reporters after meeting a delegation from Telangana comprising Deputy Chief Minister, MPs and MLAs. Naidu also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Smart City and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) projects on June 25. "Smart City and AMRUT projects would be launched by the Prime Minister on June 25. Once that is announced, people will be able to know which cities are eligible and what are the roles and responsibilities of the cities and what are the funds that are going to be alloted," he added. Assuring Centre's support to the Telangana government, the minister said the urban local bodies should also raise revenue, while following transparency and accountability. "The Centre will extend its support, but the state also should take care of the local bodies. Urban local bodies should also raise revenues and follow the policy of transparency and accountability," he said.
