NEW DELHI, December 2: The central government has accepted Delhi government's proposal to release Rs 125 crore from its 'Nirbhaya Fund' for installation of CCTV cameras in DTC buses.
The proposal was accepted during the meeting of the Special Task Force under Chairmanship of Union Home Secretary on women's safety in Delhi today but has got stuck in bureaucracy hurdles, said officials at Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).
The proposal, according to the official, had drawn objection from the Women and Child Development Ministry, which said that the purpose for which the money was being sought was not gender sensitive.
"(Swati) Maliwal today again raised the issue in the meeting wherein she said that if the money derived out of the Nirbhaya Fund could be used to install CCTV cameras in train coaches why not in buses which are used by women for commuting. Following a discussion on the same, the proposal was accepted by the WCD officials but has got stuck now in bureaucracy hurdles," said the official.
Maliwal also informed the members at the meeting that the parents of the December 16 gangrape victim after whom the Nirbhaya Fund was formed also wanted that the fund be used for women's cause.
In the meeting, Maliwal also said that the 4041 complaints were received in the Himmat application of Delhi police out of which FIRs were filed in only four cases and three complaints were forwarded to other states while the other complaints as stated by Delhi police were test calls.
The DCW chief expressed desire to analyse the data following which Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi, who was also present on the occasion, assured her that they will provide her with all the data.
