CENTRAL TEAM ASSESS SWACHH BHARAT CAMPAIGN WORKS in VADODARA

VADODARA, January 16: A team appointed by the Urban Development Ministry today concluded its two-day survey of the programmes under the Swachh Bharat campaign here. Various teams of Quality Council of India, constituted by the Urban Development Ministry, have undertaken a pan-India survey of the implementation of the Centre's flagship initiative. According to team members, the nationwide survey on the status of cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was concluded in 75 cities late last year. The three-member panel in the last two days visited Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), railway station, central bus station, Municipal Commissioner H S Patel said. They covered as many as 42 spots in the city, which included some slum areas also. The team collected data on construction of household toilets, community toilets, solid waste management, garbage collection, its disposal and processing among others, he said. During their visit to the VMC, Patel also gave a power point presentation on the civic body's development plan report on solid waste management and sewerage treatment plant at Atladara, Jambuva and other localities on the city outskirts. "While Vadodara has made significant progress in sanitation and solid waste management, it does face challenges, such as lack of disposal sites for construction waste," Patel said, adding they have briefed the panel members on the actions taken by the VMC on these fronts. The members also visited places where the civic body has made arrangement for disposal of e-waste and also assessed logistics, collection procedures and transportation of garbage. -PTI
