In a significant move towards planned, rapid, and sustainable urban development, the Assam government is set to implement the 'Ten Cities Development Concept' (Doh Shaher, Ek Rupayan). The project aims to bring about comprehensive improvements in ten selected cities, focusing on various aspects such as manpower rationalisation, capacity building, and the delivery of municipal services through digital platforms.
The meeting to outline the project, chaired by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal, took place on Tuesday. The initiative is part of the state government's commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and livability in key towns across Assam.
Under the 'Ten Cities Development Concept,' special attention will be given to the digitisation of municipal services, strengthening financial infrastructure, and optimising manpower in the selected cities. The project envisions holistic development across domains to ensure a balanced and sustainable urban landscape.
The City Infrastructure Development Fund (CIDF) will play a crucial role in financing various initiatives under the project. City beautification, open-air theatres, traffic control systems, convention centres, sports complexes, and the enhancement of water bodies are among the planned initiatives to uplift the urban experience.
These activities will be executed through a combination of Central and state government schemes and programmes. The project will be implemented in phases, covering ten cities and towns in each phase.
During the meeting, participants, including Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, Labour and Employment Minister Sanjay Kishan, eight MLAs, and government officials, shared their insights on crucial aspects of urban planning. Discussions focused on solid waste management, ensuring a clean and regular water supply, improving public infrastructure, efficient traffic management, street lighting, and the incorporation of green-blue elements such as open spaces, parks, and water bodies.
The comprehensive approach outlined in the 'Ten Cities Development Concept' reflects the state government's commitment to fostering sustainable urban growth and improving the quality of life for residents in these urban centres. The project is expected to set new benchmarks in urban development and serve as a model for other regions to emulate.
