Kanpur, Oct 4: The Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for first phase of Kanpur metro rail project along with UP Chief Minister Akhilesha Yadav.
The Kanpur metro is a joint project by Central and State government with an investment to the tune of Rs 13,721 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Akhilesh expressed the hope that the central government would extend all help in the development of the state.
"I am hopeful that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the centre will cooperate in getting the Kanpur Metro Rail project on track in time," the Chief Minister said.
On the occasion Urban Development minister said that Uttar Pradesh will soon become the first state of the country having maximum number of Smart Cities.
Kanpur has recently been selected as the smart Cities in the third list announced by the Ministry of Urban Development.
