July 14: Uttar Pradesh
government today signed an MoU with the Netherlands for cooperation in areas
such as cleaning of water resources, including river Yamuma in Agra and solid
waste management.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed by ambassador of the
Netherlands Alphonsus Stoelinga and Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal in the
presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The move aims at cooperation in areas like solid waste management, urban
development and infrastructure, water management and supply, cleaning of water
resources, lakes and ponds, sewage treatment, transport management and
infrastructure, besides land reforms in 1,500 acre in the Ganga basin in
Kanpur.
The Netherlands government will also assist in cleaning Yamuna in Agra and
sewage treatment there, a press release said.
The MoU which will remain operational for the next three years will also see
cooperation in areas like development of smart cities, cycle track, power
capability in industry, agriculture and dairy, the release said.
The Chief Minister said that a skill development center for farmers will be set
up in cooperation with the Netherlands.
