JAIPUR, December 8: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has directed the 33 districts of the state to compete with each other in reducing their carbon footprints.
"The state government has decided that districts are to immediately initiate efforts in carbon footprint reduction cutting across sectors such as urban management, tree plantation, water conservation and recycling, controlling tailpipe emissions, encouraging greater use of solar and wind energy among others," an official statement read.
A committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary, Environment and Forests and having both official and non-official members from Energy, Transportation, Urban Development, Industries shall oversee the eco-friendly work undertaken in the districts. A third party 'knowledge partner' shall study the initiatives and rank the districts, it said.
The best performing district will receive an award on World Environment Day (June 5) in 2016.
