Rajasthan Government inks pact to generate 925 MW Solar Energy

In a major recent development,  the Rajasthan Government announced that it is in discussion with NTPC Ltd to ink a pact, to deliver a 925 Mega Watt (MW) solar park in Jaisalmer, which would fetch investments worth Rs 4,000 crores.

Estimated to be situated in Nokh, Jaisalmer the Solar Park is supposed to expand over an area of 1,850 hectares and will be the maiden project under the solar policy announced recently by the state government.

In this context, Chairman, Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL)Ajitabh Sharma, stated to a national daily that RRECL already hosted several discussions with NTPC and the latter have shown willingness to develop the park. 

As per the solar policy, it is aimed to achieve a target of 30,000 MW solar power projects for the state. In this context, RRECL develops Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks in joint venture. As a matter of fact, RRECL is in discussions with three other Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSUs) to work on such projects, including Power Finance Corporation, Solar Energy Corporation of India and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation for developing solar parks.

Since the announcement of the Rajasthan solar policy in December last year, Reliance Industries, Eden Renewables and Adani Group have proposed to develop a solar park and invest Rs 2,072 crore in the renewable energy sector respectively.

As per reports, Eden Renewables will invest Rs 1,572 crore to set up 300 Mega Watt project and Adani Group will invest Rs 500 crore for 50 Mega Watt Wind Energy project.
