PM Modi inaugurates University for Defence-tech Studies in Aligarh

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh Univerity in Aligarh which will be focusing on defense technology-backed education related to the manufacturing of defense equipment in Uttar Pradesh.

Expanded over 92 acres in Lodha and Musepur Kareem Jarouli villages of Aligarh’s Kol Tehsil, the university will also provide affiliation to 395 colleges of the Aligarh division.

“Not only the country, but the whole world is witnessing India manufacturing defense equipment from modern grenades and rifles to fighter aircraft, drones, warships. Uttar Pradesh is becoming a huge center of this transformation,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi further added that over a dozen defense manufacturing companies will create thousands of jobs with hundreds of crores of rupees investment. “New industries are coming up to support the manufacture of small arms, armaments, drones and aerospace-related products in the Aligarh Node of the Defence Corridor. This will give new identities to Aligarh and nearby areas. This will create new opportunities for the youth and MSME,” PM Modi said.

While addressing the event, the Prime Minister stressed that the university will not just be a centre for higher education but will also emerge as a centre of modern defence studies, defence manufacturing-related technology and manpower development. The new National Education Policy’s features of skills and education in the local language will benefit this university a great deal.

Talking about the proposed defence corridor in the state, the Prime Minister said that India was moving ahead with an aim to carve its identity as a global defence exporter. “Uttar Pradesh will come out as the country’s largest and advanced defence manufacturing hub once the manufacturing of the Next-Gen state of the art ‘BrahMos missiles’ begins in Lucknow.”
