PM Modi Dedicates 17 Km Extension Of Namo Bharat Train's RRTS Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated an additional 17 km stretch of the Namo Bharat Train's RRTS corridor from Duhai to Modinagar North today, marking a significant step forward in regional transportation infrastructure. 

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Muradnagar RRTS station, was attended by dignitaries including Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas, and General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, and Road Transport & Highways, among others.

This extension, covering three stations - Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North - adds to the operational length of the Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut RRTS corridor, enhancing connectivity and accessibility for commuters. 

With the inauguration of this section, the Namo Bharat services will now cover 34 km of the corridor, incorporating eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar North.

The foundation stone for India's inaugural RRTS corridor, connecting Delhi to Meerut, was laid by the Prime Minister in March 2019. 

Remarkably, within just four and a half years, the commissioning of the priority section comprising five stations was accomplished, setting new standards in infrastructure development. Passenger operations on this section began in October 2023.

Minister Puri highlighted the significance of the project in advancing the vision of 'Gati se Pragati' and empowering New India. He emphasised the role of the Namo Bharat train service in seamlessly connecting urban nodes across the National Capital Region (NCR) and promoting public transport usage, economic growth, and improved quality of life.

Vinay Kumar Singh, MD of NCRTC, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their support in implementing this transformative project, emphasising India's remarkable progress in deploying cutting-edge urban transit systems under the Make-in-India initiative.

The Namo Bharat train service on the newly opened section will commence operations from 6:00 am on March 8, 2024, providing commuters with convenient and efficient transportation options from Sahibabad to Modinagar North. NCRTC is offering various ticketing options for commuters, including digital QR code-based tickets, paper QR code-based tickets, and the RRTS commuter card, aligned with the Government of India’s “One Nation, One Card” vision.

With a design speed of 180 kmph and an operation speed of 160 kmph, the RRTS is poised to revolutionise regional transportation within the NCR, significantly reducing travel time between Delhi and Meerut to less than an hour. 

This state-of-the-art rail-based transit system aims to decentralise economic activity, improve access to essential services, and reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, aligning with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.
