LED Mandatory for Government, Public Sector Establishments in Haryana

CHANDIGARH, July 26: Stepping up its efforts for energy conservation, Haryana government today made the use of LED lamps mandatory for all government and public sector offices and institutions in the state.

Principal Secretary (Renewable Energy Department) Ankur Gupta said it is also mandatory for electricity consumers in industrial, commercial and institutional sectors having connected load of 30 Kilo Watt or above.

He said with this decision, the state will be able to avoid additional generation capacity of about 380 MW as there is potential of 25 to 60 per cent energy saving if LED lighting systems are used.

The industrial, commercial and institutional sectors would have to switch to LED lighting at their own cost within one year, Gupta said.

He said the state government has also banned purchase of new sodium vapour lamps and lights having lesser efficiency by government sector or government aided sector, boards and corporation or autonomous bodies of Haryana.
