Labour Ministry confirms registration of over 27 lakh Unorganised workers in e-Shram

The Ministry of Labour and Employment stated in a statement that on Thursday more than 27 lakh unorganized workers have been registered on the e-Shram portal ever since it is launched earlier last month. The statement issued by the ministry confirmed that it is organizing several camps for registration procedures of the e-Shram portal. The statement issued by the Ministry confirmed that one such camp was held at the Shram Shakti Bhavan in New Delhi for registering the unorganized labor working in various ministries.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment and Petroleum & Natural Gas, Rameshwar Teli asked everyone to spread the word on the portal and the benefits that accrue to those workers registering on the portal while inaugurating the camps.

MoS Teli confirmed e-Shram will enable the creation of a national database of all unorganized workers and will help the government in focusing on bringing out target-based last-mile delivery of welfare schemes for unorganized workers.

Teli mentioned that e-Shram will evolve as a game-changer in streamlining unorganized workers  under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month. l.

Enlisting the benefits, Teli said the registration also provides Rs 2 lakh accidental insurance cover.

If a worker is registered on the e-Shram portal and meets with an accident, he will be eligible for Rs 2 lakh on death or permanent disability and Rs 1 lakh on partial disability. Upon the registration, the workers are provided with a universal account number, which would make it easy for the portability of social security schemes such as ration cards, especially for the migrant workers.
