Himachal Pradesh gets Green-Concept based State Data Centre

Shimla, Jun 4 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh today became the first state in the country to have a State Data Centre (SDC), designed using green data centre concept, to offer 101 people-oriented service online through an integrated data base.

Launching the Rs 58-crore SDC here today, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said SDC would integrate the websites of various departments and all services could be accessible through the integrated data base, saving time and money spent on creation of infrastructure.

"It is a major green initiative as all services would be provided online and online and paperless governance will become a reality," he said.

The Chief Minister directed all government departments to make use of SDC for hosting e-Governance applications instead of creating their own infrastructure.

"It would help in reducing the burden on state exchequer and at the same time help in the integration of online databases of various departments," he said.

SDC would further help the departments to roll out more government-to-citizen-services and people can avail them from anywhere and anytime.

"State Data Centre has been set up by IT Department using state-of-the-art technology and is first SDC in the country which has been designed using green data centre concept to minimise power requirement and increase power utilisation efficiency.

"Apart from this, cloud technology has also been implemented in SDC," said Additional Chief Secretary (IT) Sanjeev Gupta.

Till now, the state had a mini data centre which was set up as a part of State Wide Area Network.

Now departmental applications can be hosted centrally in SDC free of cost and HIMSWAN connectivity could be provided in field offices to access departmental applications.

The user departments can now focus on bringing more services online and integrate the same with other departmental applications so that the citizen would not be asked to collect document from one department and deposit in other department for availing services, Gupta said.
