Free Wi-Fi Soon at 7 Stations, Including Sealdah, Allahabad

NEW DELHI, June 4:
In a move to provide unhindered Internet facility to rail users, Railways will soon launch free Wi-FI service at seven more stations, including Allahabad and Sealdah.

"We will provide free Wi-Fi service in association with Google at seven more stations soon for passengers," a senior Railway Ministry official said.

Railways currently provides the service at eleven stations: Mumbai Central, Bhubaneswar, Kacheguda, Vijayawada, Raipur, Bhopal, Patna, Ranchi, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur and Guwahati.

He said the work for providing Wi-Fi facility is underway and the stations, including Pune, Ernakulum, Lucknow, Ujjain and Gorakhpur, will get it soon.

Supported by Google technology, RailTel, a railways PSU, is providing state-of-the-art high-speed Internet network at the stations for visitors and rail users.

Travellers passing through these stations will now be able to easily stream a high definition video while they are waiting. They can also download a book or a new game for their journey.

"Our target is to provide the facility at 100 major stations in the current year," he said.

The service built over the fibre network of RailTel is designed to offer high speed broadband-like experience to any user with a mobile connection on a smartphone.
