NEW DELHI, May 20: The recently opened Jahangirpuri- Samaypur
Badli section and the receiving sub station at Mukundpur depot of the Delhi
Metro have been awarded 'platinum' rating for adhering to green building norms.
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), which has devised a rating mechanism
for Metro stations and buildings, on a scale of platinum, gold and silver
awarded the highest rating to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at an event here
today.
While the 4.4 km long extension of the Yellow Line was launched last year, the
power sub-station was inaugurated recently by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal
and Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.
Metro Bhawan at Barakhamba Road that houses the corporation's headquarters
received 'Gold' rating, DMRC said in a statement. A web application for
monitoring solar energy generation by Metro was also launched on the occasion.
DMRC has drafted a solar policy under which it aims to generate 20 MW power by
2017 and 50 MW by 2021. It has already commissioned 6.3 MW and has awarded
contracts for another 20 MW.
Delhi Metro is developing all its stations of Phase III as green buildings
which it says will help bring down power consumption by 35 per cent.
