BMC Initiates First Phase Of Project from Kandivali Lokhandwala To Goregaon East

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has kickstarted the initial phase of the Kandivali Lokhandwala to Goregaon East connectivity project with the widening of a 500-metre road in Malad East P Northward. This crucial infrastructure project aims to establish a 2.1-kilometre roadway connecting Kandivali Lokhandwala to the Western Express Highway in Goregaon East, forming a vital link to the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) for enhanced connectivity to the eastern suburbs.

Described as a 'Vital project,' the newly commenced road expansion initiative holds significant promise for commuters, offering a much-needed alleviation from congestion and enhancing accessibility across key areas. Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Commissioner of the P North ward, emphasised the importance of the project, stating, "This is an important project by BMC that will bring major relief to the commuters."

The development entails the widening of the road to accommodate bridges and concretized pathways, boasting a width of 120 feet. BMC officials disclosed that the project would impact a total of 1376 structures, with 71 situated within forested areas and the remainder situated on BMC-owned land. Approximately 860 metres of the road will traverse through forest terrain.

During the inaugural phase on Monday, the P North team conducted demolitions, clearing the path for expansion by razing 168 structures along an existing 30-feet road in Malad East. Among these structures, 107 were deemed eligible for rehabilitation. "Of these 107 structures, 85 were residential and 22 were commercial structures. We have rehabilitated 800-900 people in the nearby Malad East and Goregaon East," remarked Dighavkar.

The newly widened road will serve as a crucial alternative route for Kandivali residents, facilitating connectivity from Lokhandwala Township to Malad Reservoir and Goregaon East. The demolition operation witnessed over 50 BMC workers leveraging two poclain machines, two JCBs, and four dumpers under the supervision of BMC engineers to expedite the project's execution.

As the BMC progresses with the implementation of this pivotal connectivity project, commuters and residents alike anticipate enhanced mobility and improved accessibility across the region, underscoring the significance of strategic infrastructure investments in addressing urban connectivity challenges.
