Bengal offers 10 percent higher FAR to green buildings

KOLKATA, May 7: West Bengal is committed to encourage green building practices and it already offers 10 percent higher floor area ratio for green building. "The state is committed to encourage green building practices and the challenge is to put in place a system for effective implementation and monitoring," Urban Development and Town & Country Planning secretary Debashis Sen said. He said the state had come out with a notification to grant an increase of 10 percent FAR for projects achieving green rating. Indian Green Building Council chairman V Suresh said, "We are elevating from a safety regime to an eco-friendly regime in designing buildings, which augurs well for the country. Moreover, green buildings make good business sense.
