West Bengal government escalates top cop Soumen Mitra as DGP

The West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar cleared the appointment of Senior IPS officer, Soumen Mitra for the position of Director General of Police, West Bengal following the Supreme Courts' verdict over the mandatory UPSC clearance in the appointment of top IPS officers as state director general of police.

As per a notification issued by the state government, it is mentioned that the senior IPS officer is reported to be elevated from the rank of Additional Director General of Police, to the rank of Director General of Police on Promotion and will continue to be posted as Kolkata police commissioner.

“The governor is pleased to appoint Soumen Mitra IPS, presently posted as Commissioner of Police, Kolkata in the rank of Additional Director General of Police, to the rank of Director General of Police on Promotion and post him as Commissioner of Police, Kolkata on Promotion in -situ with effect from September 1, 2021, until further order,” order released by the state government said.
