Telangana Govt Introduces Mobile App For Ease In Bus Travel

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is using modern technology to make bus travel in the state safe, secure, comfortable, and hassle-free. The TSRTC Gamyam smartphone app, which recently went live, allows users to track bus arrival and departure timings among other things.

The bus monitoring software will make it possible for commuters to know the precise schedule of buses operating on various routes and the time of their arrival at various stops throughout Telangana and neighbouring States where the service is offered. The purpose of this software is to give users the ability to plan their travel in advance in order to save time at bus stops.

The app with state-of-the-art features was launched at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station in Hyderabad by VC Sajjanar, Managing Director, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. Taking to social media, he said, “Currently we have provided a tracking facility for 4,170 buses of TSRTC. Tracking facility is available for Pushpak Airport and Metro Express services in Hyderabad. Similarly, this facility has been provided to all buses except Palle Velam in the districts. We are going to connect the tracking facility to all the other services from the month of October. Through the ‘Gayam’ app you can know which buses are available at which times from the starting point to the destination.”

In addition to timetables, the passengers will also be aware of the driver and conductor's information, be able to follow the whereabouts of the city bus by entering its route number, and be informed of long-distance services by submitting their reservation number. The app also offers details on the bus stops that are closest to the user's location.

The app includes unique features to make travel safer, especially for women, people in need of medical attention, and accidents. Its Plug a Bus feature, which is available from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and prioritises the protection of female passengers, is especially helpful for female travellers in places without nighttime bus stops. They can enter the information in the app, which will cause a green light to display on their smartphone's screen automatically. The driver must stop when this light is directed in his direction in order to pick up the female passenger.

Gamyam can be downloaded through Google Play Store or from the TSRTC official website www.tsrtc.telangana.gov.in for free. Available in Telugu and English, passengers don’t need to give any personal details in the app.
