No Plans To Change Delhi Metro Timings, Says DMRC

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation recently stated that passenger traffic has increased compared to pre-COVID-19 numbers. Despite the fact that the number of passengers continues to grow, the DMRC has no intentions to increase metro hours beyond 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. 

According to reports, DMRC officials say that there is a small window for metros to run beyond 5:30 am and 11:30 pm because each train requires time and attention for maintenance at the depots.

Recent train arrival delays at metro stations with interchanges have been noticed with Delhi Metro. The spokesperson added that the headway at the busiest stations is already relatively short and the trains are getting there in a matter of seconds, saying the delays were just transitory and the problem has been rectified now.

When questioned about the problem that caused the delays, the spokesperson responded, "DMRC runs more than 360 trains, therefore it probably was a minor technical issue that only lasted for a few minutes. Additionally, a passenger's suicide caused a delay. When it comes to metro scheduling and service, the DMRC maintains above 99 per cent on-time performance, she continued.

The Delhi Metro continuously exceeded its pre-COVID-19 passenger travels between March and August 2023, according to data provided by DMRC. In contrast to the same month in 2019, every month experienced an increase of over 100 per cent, with June showing the largest gain at 114.34 per cent. 

According to the data, there were 52,46,607 passenger travels in August 2019; however, that number increased to 59,04,397 in August 2023, representing a growth of 112.54 per cent.
