MeitY launches Innovation Challenge for developing Video Conferencing Solution

]In the light of these developments, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has announced an Innovation Challenge for Development of a Video Conferencing Solution under the Digital India Initiative. Companies, start-ups, and individual experts can participate in the challenge. The final Video Conferencing product must be at par with Internationa level audio and video quality standards which can also work in low and high network scenarios.  The end product will be an Indian Software Product. The challenge launched by MeitY is an initiative to promote Indian Software products as envisaged under the National Policy on Software Products.

The challenge will have three rounds, in the first round 10 participants will be shortlisted and will be provided with a sum of Rs 5 lakh each to develop the prototypes. However, in the second round, three of the 10 prototypes will be selected to further develop the software or complete product for which a sum of Rs 20 lakh will be provided to each of the three participants.

The best one of the three, the winner, will get a contract to deploy their solution for use by the Government of India and the State Government entities for a period of four years and will also be given Rs 1 crore in the first year and an additional 10 lakhs per year for the next three years for operations and maintenance of the product. Also, all teams including the winner will be allowed to market their product to any entity outside Union/State/UT Government Organizations of India by hosting it on a non-governmental environment.
