MANGALURU, Apr 27: The Dakshina Kannada district police in Karnataka today launched a helpline with the aim of ensuring the safety of women, children and senior citizens.
The helpline (1098), located at the office of the district Superintendent of Police, was inaugurated by SP Sharanappa at a function here.
Sharanappa told reporters that the helpline has also been linked with the missing child bureau. The facility had been launched with the co-operation of various government departments and NGOs, he said.
Stressing the importance of community policing, Sharanappa said the department had been interacting with different sections of society through workshops and meetings and trying to infuse more professionalism within the department.
The service of the helpline would be available round the clock, he said.
