Bengal Chief Secretary retires, appointed as Advisor to Chief Minister
In a major bureaucratic movement in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the retirement of Chief Secretary, Alapan Bandyopadhyay on Monday. She further said that state Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay has refused to accept the three months of extension offered to him and retired from his post. He will now serve Banerjee as her chief advisor, she added.
Replacing Alapan, the state home secretary H K Dwivedi will serve as the new state chief secretary while B P Gopalika has been made the new state home secretary.
“Today, Alapan Bandyopadhyay has retired as the chief secretary. He has been made the chief adviser to the Chief Minister. He will start working in his new post from tomorrow for a tenure of three years. H.K. Dwivedi has been made the new state chief secretary,” Banerjee said during a press conference.
Alapan Bandyopadhyay had been called by the Central Government to have reported in New Delhi by this morning, which he skipped citing himself being occupied with cyclone review in the state he was asked to serve the Union government in Delhi.
The Centre had on Monday sent a letter to Bandyopadhyay asking him again to report to North Block on Tuesday. The second letter from the Centre came hours after CM Banerjee wrote to PM Modi saying that she would not release Bandyopadhyay.
