In a recent development, municipal authorities of Vadodra and Ashkelon, a city in Israel signed a declaration, for which both the cities have been working for six years now.
Aimed at developing and deepening the cultural, social, economic and tourism ties between the two cities, the declaration is signed by Vadodra mayor, Dr. Jigeesha Sheth and Ashkelon Mayor, Tomer Glam.
The city-based organization, Friends of Israel and it's convenor Nikitin Contractor floated the idea of declaration and has been under discussion between the two entities since 2014.
It was only in October last year that things started to mobilize when former deputy mayor of Ashkelon Dr Ricky Shay and other representatives from VMC top brass met together to take things forward.
The areas of focus of the declaration, include, education, environment, emergency management, empowering women and exchange of cultural programs and are termed as the Five E's.
