In a recent pact between the two, New Delhi Municipal Corporation(NDMC) inked a pact with Location Intelligence firm, Zippr to create Digital Door Numbering for about 50000 homes in the National Capital Region (NCR). The initiative will put NCR a step ahead in the door-to-door waste collection by NDMC.
In the process, Zippr is to create unique identification numbers for homes, streets, and localities over traditional address format. Zippr Co-Founder Parikshit Reddy asserted ," Most of the administrative tasks takes place along the streets, it is crucial to identify them all. The Digital Door-step Numbering is scalable down to the localities and buildings."
For the NDMC project, the multi-utility solution was used to create digital door numbers (DDN) for homes and the corporation installed a smartboard with QR code outside the houses. Sanitary workers scan the QR code after collecting waste and the host computer of the app immediately updates the data on waste collection, enabling effective monitoring of the system.
“The government is an important stakeholder so we realized that we need to work with them to fix the problem of both identity and accessibility,” Reddy said. Having a clear identity for all buildings would help plug leaks in the systems and help in improving civic services, he said.
Zippr is working with state governments and local authorities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as well, and is in talks with other civic bodies to take this solution to them.
Some of the government properties where DDN has been implemented include Vigyan Bhavan, Transport Bhawan, the Reserve Bank of India, Akashwani Bhawan, Ministry of Home Affairs, DAK Bhawan, and Shastri Bhawan.
