Gwalior's 'Digital Museum', an initiative to restore Heritage, Culture, bagged Smart City Awards for 'Culture'

Gwalior's Digital Museum, which is an initiative by the city Smart City SPV, Gwalior Smart City is a reflection of Gwalior’s exemplary heritage. It is an effort to amalgamate the richness of yesteryears with the intervention of latest digital technology.  Being one of the most popular initiatives by Gwalior Smart City, the museum is built across 3500 sq.ft area for a cost of INR 6.5 crores is composed of 16 galleries to showcase Gwalior's history and Cultural diversity, digitally. "We have classified the entire historical timeframe into interests and assigned a gallery to each of them. Following galleries have been developed to enrich a visitor’s experience at the museum", said Jayati Singh, CEO, Gwalior Smart City, Jayati Singh.

This gallery welcomes guests with a description of Gwalior’s elaborate history through digital media. Further, a Diorama displaying Gwalior Fort and beautiful picture frames showcasing the enormous buildings at the Fort are fascinating. With a match of digital interventions through the 360-degree walkthrough and VR-enabled equipment, this gallery gives you a real-time experience.

This award is an acknowledgment of the efforts and vision of Gwalior Smart City in preserving heritage and also its adaptive reuse. The museum is an amazing combination of age old heritage with latest digital intervention. The ISAC award shall keep us motivated to deliver even better projects in the future". .

The gallery renders an experience of being at a tribal house setup, equipped with the various utensils, tools, etc used by the Sehariya tribe, one can feel the lifestyle. This gallery catches the attention of visitors at once with photographs depicting various realms of life including entertainment, livelihood, festivals, hobbies etc.

Music This is perhaps the biggest gallery in terms of space and rightly so. Music and Gwalior have been associated for the longest period of time. Being fondly called the ‘Land of Tansen’ Gwalior has music imbibed in all its elements. The gallery uses the right balance of digital technology and music content that helps you learn and experience music in its raw form. While learning about a particular Raga you can literally listen to its corresponding sound thanks to the wonderful digital interface at a kiosk. Further, a set of pics that replicate the amazingly stunning artwork of Raag Mala is bound to leave you awestruck. 

Singh, further assured, " Soon, we are going to inaugurate the Planetarium at the rear of this Digital Museum which is going to be the first in this region."
