In a bid to upgrade the digital infrastructures in railway stations, under the Central Government's flagship mission of the Digital India program, the Indian Railways has installed internet-based video surveillance systems at 269 railway stations in 10 zones. The high-end surveillance system can store footage for a span of one month.
Furthermore, Railtel has tendered out an order for similar installations in 456 more stations besides the ongoing projects under progress in 31 stations. “We will be upgrading 756 stations by March 2022 with this high-end surveillance system which will definitely enhance security in these stations. Four types of IP cameras (dome type, bullet types, pan-tilt-zoom type, and Ultra HD-4k) are being used to ensure maximum coverage inside Railway premises. This will give an extra edge to the RPF officials to improve security,” RailTel CMD Puneet Chawla commented.
According to RailtTel, the new systems were installed following an order from the Railway Board that asked the public sector unit to provide these surveillance systems at all A1, A, B, C, D and E category railway stations, coaches of premium trains, and suburban electric multiple unit trains.
